Lane Automotive: Boosting Efficiency with Warehouse Automation
Delivering Seamless End-to-End Order Fulfillment
Thanks to the integration of Exotec’s Skypod® system in its micro-fulfillment centre in Italy, Tannico is able to optimize the management of its 12,000 wine product references while guaranteeing efficient, sustainable and scalable logistics.
Founded in Milan in 2013, Tannico has established itself as the leader in Italian wine e-commerce and a leading European player in the high-end wine and spirits sector. With an impressive catalogue of 12,000 references from 2,500 wineries, the company caters for wine lovers and collectors alike, with a curated selection ranging from rare wines to carefully selected exclusives.
In 2021, Tannico recorded 600,000 orders for a total of 4.5 million bottles shipped to 23 countries, including the United States and Japan. This performance was consolidated by sales of 76 million euros, up 105% on the previous year.Since its acquisition in 2022 by the joint venture Campari Group & Moët Hennessy (LVMH), Tannico’s ambition is to become Europe’s leading online retailer of wines and spirits. “At Tannico, innovation is in our DNA. Whether through our choice of cutting-edge technologies or our ability to anticipate our customers’ expectations, we are constantly on the lookout for solutions that combine performance, excellence and sustainability,” explains Elisa Sala, COO of Tannico.
To maintain its leading position and meet its international growth ambitions, Tannico had to overcome a number of complex obstacles. Busy periods such as Christmas and Black Friday placed a heavy burden on logistics, requiring a solution that could guarantee consistent operational efficiency, even during these seasonal peaks. In addition, the diversity of its catalogue, comprising 13,000 SKUs in a variety of formats and sizes, from rare bottles to unique collections, made precise and secure management essential.
The space available was also a major challenge. The 6,000 m² warehouse in Castel San Giovanni had to be organised to maximise its capacity while minimising unnecessary travel, thereby optimising logistics flows. In addition, as a company committed to the environment, Tannico wanted to integrate solutions with a low ecological impact, in line with its sustainability strategy.
Customer experience was another key priority. By automating certain processes, Tannico was able to free up time for its operators, allowing them to concentrate on higher value-added tasks, such as personalising orders. This offered customers an enriched experience, in line with the growing demands of the market.
“We have to guarantee a high level of service, regardless of the volume of orders. We had to find a solution that was both agile and capable of responding to the diversity of our catalogue“, explains Elisa Sala, COO of Tannico.
Errevi Automation, Exotec integrator for Italy, was commissioned to design, deploy and maintain the automation project, including a Skypod system.
